The Aleppo Earthquake, M8.5, This 11th Day of October 1138

The 1138 Aleppo earthquake was among the deadliest earthquakes in history. Its name was taken from the city of Aleppo, in northern Syria, where the most casualties were sustained.

This is the northern part of the dead sea transform of Geological faults system made up of the Arabian plate and the African plate.

It is estimated that 230,000 people lost their lives in this event which makes this the third deadliest earthquake in recorded history.

This would not be the only earthquake, there was a series of major earthquakes to strike this area over the years in History.
